Selecting The Correct Bike Is Not Easy

There are several different reasons people choose to cycle as a mode of transportation. You may not even choose to ride a bicycle as a means of transportation at all. Some people take up cycling in order to exercise. The thrill of competition draws other people to the sport of cycling. And some people decide that they want to take up cycling as a hobby with their family and friends. Whatever the reason you have for wanting a cycling bicycle, there are a lot of different things to consider when you are trying to decide which cycling bicycle is right for you. Here are some hints to help you make your choice.

The brakes on your bike are of utmost importance. You have to think about what you are most comfortable with along the lines of stopping your bicycle. For light use you can get a bike with traditional brakes, ones which simply squeeze the tires with small pads. If you are going to be using your bicycle more often or in heavy terrain, you will want brakes that are a little more hard core and complicated. These brakes are called 'disc brakes' and are located within the wheel, they are far more reliable than normal brakes and are less likely to fail over time.

What kind of add-ons must you have? If you have to move things using your bike, you’ll certainly want to add a basket. Will you be travelling with a child? Attaching a child seat is not possible for every bike, so choose wisely. Have you ever considered pulling anything behind your bike? You will have to get a bike that can support the trailer's weight.

Be certain to leave adequate room between yourself and your bikes crossbar. When you get a bike be sure to move the seat up a couple of inches from the crossbar. Make certain you can still place both feet flatly on the ground. Each type of bike will require differing clearance amounts. A touring bike for example will require around 1", perhaps slightly more. With a mountain bike a clearance of 3" will be necessary.
